The Man Who Transformed Metal Bass Playing Forever
A pioneer of enhancing the bass guitar's presence in hard rock and metal music, let me take you through the life and bass style of one of the most legendary bassists to have ever lived, even though only for a short time...Cliff Burton.
Metallica's bass on the first three albums was all due to Cliff. He was a beast. His technical prowess, tone, playing style, and composition were light years ahead of anyone in the 80s.

How To SLAP Like Flea From Red Hot Chili Peppers
I always thought the bass line from Nowhere Man was his best.
Wish Geddy still played the Rick. I know I know... P bass I know. But the Rick has the growl of a V8 that the Fenders dont have
Only good part is the bridge
You mean Fauxl
I once heard a quote from a producer, the identity of who eludes me, saying the most original thought on The Bee Gees, their amazing background vocal harmony is one instrument you just cannot go into a music store and buy.
WAL BASS
When Lemmy says you're the best, dude, you're the f****** best. And, Lemmy was damn good!
Yes. Rutger was a secret weapon. 😎
Lots & lots of ghost notes yet its the coolest stuff.
good video. like the mix of musical snippets with the historical/human context
Thanks a lot!!! That was exactly what I was going for 🤘🤘

I saw them in concert, and they were the three loudest musicians on the planet. I'm not a mosh pit type person, but you can't help but head slam to this.
Damn that Rickenbacker sounds awesome.
I saw this video clip where Maurice said how Paul McCartney was his idol, that he could play all his bass licks....so what I want to know is, DID THEY EVER MEET? Did he ever get to meet his idol???
YYZed to you sir
John Mcvie adapted a lot of the same techniques. Especially, his jamming with Lindsey Buckingham in songs like Go Your Own Way. In the outro it's like the 2 are doing a duelling lead. From this i can see Entwistle's influence on McVie.
George also came up with the bass on "Two of Us", played on his telecaster; and he also came up with the bass line on "Drive My Car", although I think Paul plays it. George derived it from some Motown he was listening to.
Well it’s not a bass line since he’s playing his telecaster.
@@thedogwoods5716I see your point but it's still the bass line in relation to the song. Even if he played that on the piano, chello, or synthesizer it would still be considered the bass line
The band was a working machine, when they played, even moony did the most on what he had.
The Wal bass is what he is playing. It is murder on the fingers unless you like the strings very, very far apart.
The Beatles and Paul McCartney were my first influences on bass, followed very close by the Who and John Entwistle. I have proudly been referred to as the Ox at some our live gigs.
Heart of the sunrise has the most underrated bassline. What I really like about Chris squire is that he plays the bass like a lead instrument. R.I.P Chris Squire 🕊️
Roundabout... another one of those songs that made me want to play bass. His bass always reminded me of a Fender Strat six-string... that hint of fret buzz really contributed to his sound. PEEEEAACE!!! 😊
disco is black. bee gees are culture vultures
George was on a fender jazz bass check the pics
Is their actual pics of him recording oh darling? Could just be pics of him on the jazz bass fiddling around
❤💖💖💖💖

Much props for the inclusion of the simple but powerful "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" riff!
Green Day: Longview Nirvana : Lounge Act L'Arc en Ciel: Blurry Eyes Led Zeppelin: Whole Lotta Love and The Song Remains The Same Tool: The Pot
You could be mine????
I have one! Stellar Circuits - Witch House
How often do you hear a bass solo (My Generation) in the middle of a song?
And that's why they call him The Ox. His tone was impeccable. My favorite bass guitarist of all time. No one played like him before, nor after.
I’m pretty sure the bassline is supposed to start on the root and then do a walk up to the root so the way you played it (starting with the walk up) threw me off
Not trying to be a smart ass I just had to sing this bassline so many times back when we did this song in choir lol
Woooooow!!! Nothing less than amazing!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
Bass players are the healers of the band party.
Did any of the Who ever come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord?
If Rush isn't your favorite band, then they most likely are your favorite band's favorite band...
tetsuo sakurai is the best bassist
He was the glue that held The Who sound together. And he died before he got old! Thanks Ox. 🙏👍😊🎶
I LOVE his Too Late the Hero album, alongside Joe Walsh and Joe Vitale!
Paul almost stole the show on that song with the baseline
Somewhere in time and space Lemmy and Hendrix are hopefully jamming RIP guys
Paul could pay any instrument, drums, any guitar and his voice range was incredible. If he wasn’t playing traditional bass it was for a particular reason, leave him alone.
Great band, their documentary is great, recommended watch if you like them ❤
Love this!
Sounds JUST like a Rickenbacker !
check out some jaco pastorius
nicely done - man u have passion that jumps off the screen - now gonna listen a lot deeper to abba’s bass lines
It's true, you gotta get a rickenbacker, that natural midscoop and ringing sustain are its stock-in-trade
